In 1940, traveling back to the US from the Canal Zone, she put the name of Eldemire as her maiden name, and also on her "Petition for Naturalization" Record. It appears that on her trip to see her mother in 1940 she discovered that Sydney P Hughlings was not her father. By 1974 and their Golden Wedding Anniversary, she used the name of Hughlings again.
